Safeguarding Our Local Food Economy
Behind the scenes of the Good Food Finder, the Local First Arizona food team is hard at work helping to build what we call a “Good Food Economy,” which means creating a resilient local food system by supporting local growers, farmers, producers, and food entrepreneurs and educating Arizonians about the importance of purchasing local food.
How you spend your food dollars plays a crucial role in safeguarding our local food economy.
Wondering how you can support the growers and makers of local food in Arizona? Here are five easy ways to take part in the local Arizona food movement:
1. Buy & Eat Locally-Grown Food
Find a farmers market, sign up for a CSA from a local farmer, or choose the “local” tags at your grocery store. Choose the food that makes your community a place you’re proud to call home.
2. Get Growing
Grow your own food, create a backyard garden to share with your neighbors, get involved with a community garden, and lend your support as a volunteer with those in the local farming community.
3. Be an advocate in the Arizona Local Food Movement
Be part of the change that creates a more sustainable and just food system. Join the Coalition for Farmland Preservation. Volunteer at a local farm. Learn about the many issues and challenges our local farmers are facing and how you can help. And, finally, if you’re a farmer or food producer, make sure your business is listed on the Good Food Directory.
4. Donate to Local First Arizona
Making a donation is the most direct way to support vital programs that are working to create a resilient local food system that enables all Arizonans to access healthy, affordable food to feed themselves and their families. With your support, we can build a better, more prosperous, and inclusive Arizona economy.
